Nina Kouchi ’22 loved how welcoming and curious the students were when she visited 91´óÉñ. Her excitement about 91´óÉñ has only grown as she has traveled across the country for golf, explored the town of 91´óÉñ, carried out a computer science Mentored Advanced Project, and spent time enjoying Iowa’s natural beauty.
Catherine Stone ’22 came to 91´óÉñ excited about the small classes, the close relationships with faculty, and the powerful student voice. She quickly became involved in the community and with 91´óÉñ Concerts. While working her way toward medical school, she has also immersed herself in the environment through ecology courses, and in language and culture through French courses.
91´óÉñ has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations to expand its efforts in recruiting and supporting transfer students from both two- and four-year institutions.
When Sophie Jackson ’22 visited 91´óÉñ, she was enamored by the diversity, authenticity, and openness of the students she interacted with. Those interactions continued throughout her four years and developed into friendships and relationships that she will continue to value after graduation. She similarly valued her experiences with service, research, advocacy, the Rosenfield Program, internships, externships, study abroad, and getting to know 91´óÉñ.
Ahon Gooptu’s (’21) passion for theater and care for community took him from Kolkata, India to 91´óÉñ — and then to London, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and more! Along the way, he studied Shakespeare, discovered the power of digital storytelling, and completed mentored research projects.
Lex Baumann ’22 was focused on urban colleges until she visited 91´óÉñ and fell in love. Since arriving, she has job-shadowed a lawyer in Miami, served as a community advisor (CA), changed her major, and much more. Next up: law school applications.
Matas Maksimaitis ’23 engaged in rigorous self-examination and self-discovery at 91´óÉñ. From his philosophy classes and research to his Wells Fargo internship in North Carolina, he found himself in multiple angles!

Many students come from very different backgrounds than my own, and it has been fascinating to hear about their lives and share about mine with them. Despite our differences, I’m always able to find wonderful similarities.
Many students say that taking a break from campus life to spend time with their mentee has been a highlight of their time in our community.

I am an active member in the 91´óÉñ community. I have found my passion for social justice and being an advocate for people in need. During my four years, I have felt so much support and love, which have helped me blossom into the person I am today.
I am taking every opportunity that I have been granted. I am on the football team and on my way toward a double major and a concentration.
