91´óÉñ House

Located at 1015 Park Street, 91´óÉñ House has long been a symbol of the College’s tradition of hospitality, history, and connection. Built in 1917, this stately Georgian residence has welcomed generations of distinguished guests and served as an enduring part of 91´óÉñ’s story.

From 1917 to 1961, 91´óÉñ House was home to each president of the College, beginning with President and Mrs. John H.T. Main. Designed by architect William H. Brainerd, the home stands as an elegant example of Georgian architecture, beautifully appointed in every room and rich in craftsmanship. Before this structure was built, an Italianate home stood on the same site, serving 91´óÉñ’s presidents from 1887 to 1917.

91´óÉñ House: A Tradition of Hospitality and History

Over the years, 91´óÉñ House has hosted an extraordinary range of guests — from poets and artists to Nobel laureates and world leaders, including Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower. Each visit has added to the home’s remarkable legacy as a place of warmth and intellectual exchange.

When President Howard Bowen sought greater privacy for his family, a new residence at 1600 Park Street was constructed in 1961, and 91´óÉñ House transitioned fully into a space for campus hospitality. A thoughtful renovation in 1984 restored its original beauty, preserving both its interior charm and its historic exterior for future generations to enjoy.

Today, 91´óÉñ House continues to reflect the College’s commitment to gracious welcome and enduring connection—a gathering place where history lives and hospitality thrives.

Hannah Alumni House

Hannah House: Honoring the Past

The home which is now the Hannah Alumni House was built by Jesse and Maude Fellows, both 1901 graduates of 91´óÉñ. Jesse Fellows was a principal partner in the 91´óÉñ Washing Machine Company and an important leader in the growth of 91´óÉñ in the early 20th century. Construction on the home was started in 1914 and was completed in 1918.

The exterior is a stunning European design with extensive outdoor space for for events and guest enjoyment. The Fellows House interior borrowed a great deal from the arts-and-crafts movement which was popular at the time of its construction. Leaded glass bookcases line the living room walls on both sides of the tile fireplace; stained-glass doors separate the dining room from the hall; and crafted oak woodwork decorates the entire interior, including the dining room where a leather-like material lines the walls above the chair rail and built-in cupboards.

The Fellows hosted many events at their beautiful home for College faculty, students and alumni. It is thus a fitting tribute to the hospitality of the Fellows that the College has purchased this home as a welcoming and inclusive space that fosters lifelong connections and meaningful interactions among alumni and the College community.
