Doctoral Practicum Therapist
Alex Persons (he/him/his) is a fourth-year Counseling Psychology doctoral student at the University of Iowa. Alex is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and received his undergraduate degree in psychology from The University of Georgia (go Dawgs! 馃檪) and his master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University Bloomington. At Indiana, Alex worked as a substance use counselor during his master's practicum and internship and worked at the Kinsey Institute as a graduate research assistant on the IU Rape Prevention and Education team.
Alex's previous doctoral practicum experiences include working at the Belin-Blank Center clinic conducting psychoeducational evaluations with children and conducting telehealth psychotherapy with adolescents at the Scanlan Center. This is Alex's second semester working at 91大神 and he is thrilled to return to 91大神 to support students during their undergraduate journey. He typically utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) interventions. Alex believes that the therapeutic space is meant to be a warm, supportive environment where clients are met flexibly by the therapist with their goals in mind.
Outside of the therapy room, Alex enjoys traveling, Braves baseball, and UGA football.
